David Drury, BPA Affiliate

David Drury brings to BPA a background in U.S. and international policy research and wide-ranging expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods. Trained as an anthropologist and planner, he has a long-standing interest in the integration of public and private efforts to improve living conditions and in the application of scientific data to policy questions. In his nine years as a Senior Analyst at BPA, Dr. Drury served as Project Director/ Principal Investigator or senior staff for over 25 studies in the areas of employment training, small and minority business development, labor market issues, disability, social welfare, housing/ infrastructure and other topics.
From 1994 to 2000 Dr. Drury applied this experience internationally as a Senior Researcher and methodologist for the Fafo Institute of Applied Social Science in Oslo, Norway. Working with partner organizations in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, China and southern Africa, he carried out studies of the labor market and employment, education, demography, housing, social welfare, and evaluations of international aid. Funders included Norwegian Aid to International Development, the European Union, the World Bank, the Ford Foundation and UN agencies. One of Dr. Drury's main responsibilities in these projects was to provide local partners with training and technical assistance in modern research methods for project and instrument design, budgeting and quantitative analysis.
After returning to the United States Dr. Drury became a BPA Affiliate, and is now working on the Technical Assistance Guide for Serving Dislocated Workers Requiring Multicultural Service Strategies and Solutions and a special tabulation of Census data on Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations in WIA service areas.
Dr. Drury holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology and a Master's in City and Regional Planning from the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to his work as a BPA Affiliate, Dr. Drury currently teaches courses in Urban Planning at the University of Hawaii, Hilo.
