Yasuyo Abe, Ph.D., Principal Analyst
Yasuyo Abe has over 10 years of experiences in conducting policy-related research and evaluation. Her research work has focused on welfare reform, poverty, and youth employment and behaviors. At BPA, Dr. Abe leads several welfare evaluation projects as a senior researcher. Dr. Abe received her B.A. in Economics from Scripps College and Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University, with an emphasis on labor economics and applied econometrics. Dr. Abe also received extensive interdisciplinary graduate training through the joint NSF Poverty Research program at the Northwestern University/University of Chicago.

Board of Trustees, BPA ESOP. Prior to joining BPA, Dr. Abe was a NICHD research fellow at Population Research Center at the NORC and University of Chicago, where she researched the relationship between youth employment and their antisocial behaviors. Dr. Abe also served as Economist and Acting Country Officer for Tanzania and other Eastern African countries at the World Bank, where she focused on the issues of economic growth, poverty, employment, and institutional capacity building in the development context.
