Katie Hornung, Analyst

After receiving her B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Public Policy from the University of California at Berkeley in 2004, Katie Hornung joined BPA where she was involved in number of projects including the L.A. Source Program Demonstration Project, the California Welfare Time Limits Study, and the Comprehensive Evaluation of Louisiana Family Recovery Corps (LFRC) Services. Ms. Hornung returned to graduate school in 2007, and currently holds a Master of Education degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Sociology and Education with a concentration in Health Education and Policy. As a graduate student Ms. Hornung co-created the Harlem Fruit Project, which aims to increase fruit and vegetable consumption among adolescents in New York City's Harlem neighborhoods. In addition, she is the recipient of the American Public Health Association's Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section (PHEHP) Student Research Award. Ms. Hornung's interests include the links between health and student achievement, childhood overweight and obesity, health promotion, healthcare and education reform, college access for low-income and minority youth, and the effectiveness and impact of social services.
