Junior Research Analyst
The Position:
Primary tasks typically assigned to Junior Analysts include the following: library research; reviewing and abstracting published literature and other written materials; cleaning and troubleshooting data, performing data management tasks; performing basic statistical data analysis; creating databases using spreadsheets, Access, or other software; conducting semi-structured interviews; accompanying and assisting senior staff on site visits; conducting survey and focus group research; creating charts and tables for inclusion in reports; summarizing findings and their significance; and contributing to project reports.
Depending on background and abilities, a Junior Analyst also may be offered the opportunity to develop skills and gain experience in the following areas: site visit write-ups; interviews with experts and key informants; participating in survey design tasks; complex statistical data analysis; and more advanced writing tasks, such as drafting and editing report sections. Junior Analysts may also supervise Research Assistants or data entry staff for specific tasks.
In addition to project-specific work, Junior Analysts are expected to participate actively in the proposal-writing process, participating in coordination, tracking, and preparation of proposal sections. Junior Analysts are also expected to participate actively in and contribute to BPA on the corporate as well as the project level.
Junior Analysts work on several projects simultaneously, and are responsible for managing their time in such a way as to accomplish the work on each project within the time allotted. Junior Analysts are expected to work constructively with other staff on a project team, contribute ideas, use time effectively, work productively without close supervision, and represent the company in a professional manner in dealings with outside individuals and organizations.
Primary Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a research/analysis-oriented discipline (such as sociology, public policy, social welfare, history, or economics), with one-to-two years of relevant work experience. Verifiable spreadsheet and/or database applications skills. Excellent and verifiable organizational skills. Good written and oral communication skills.
