Senior Research Analyst
The Position:
Primary tasks assigned to Senior Analysts include: contributing major segments of study design; reviewing and abstracting published literature and other written materials; holding semi-structured or structured interviews/discussions with experts and key informants to gather information; conducting on-site and telephone interviews; planning and supervising collection of data from case files and databases; overseeing coding of data elements; creating databases using spreadsheets, statistical (e.g., SPSS,SAS) and database software; cleaning and troubleshooting resulting data; analyzing data; creating charts and tables for inclusion in reports; summarizing findings and their significance; writing reports or report chapters; and planning and supervising activities of other staff on a task team.
Senior Analysts often serve as task leaders, with responsibility for supervising other staff and conceptualizing tasks. Senior Analysts may also direct or manage whole projects, with responsibility for adhering to budget and timelines, and with accountability for the quality of reports and other deliverable products. Senior Analysts usually work on two to three projects simultaneously and are responsible for ascertaining the expected billable time for each major task and each project. Senior Analysts are expected to work productively with little or no supervision and to work constructively with other staff on a project team, to contribute ideas, to use time effectively, and to represent the company in a professional manner in interactions with outside individuals and organizations.
In addition to project-specific work, Senior Analysts actively participate in marketing efforts: using personal and professional networks to pursue potential new work, managing proposal efforts, and contributing substantially to the content and design of proposals. Senior Analysts are also expected to participate actively in and contribute to BPA on the corporate as well as the project level.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree (Master's, Ph.D.) or equivalent in social science or a related discipline, plus several years of directly related experience. Evidence of outstanding writing and oral communication skills. Acknowledged expertise (and preferably publications) related to the areas of interest to BPA client agencies. Ability to travel overnight and out of state, and work extra time when needed to meet deadlines.
