Research Analyst

The Position:
Primary tasks typically assigned to Analysts include the following: conducting site visits to study program operations and prepare written case studies; contributing to study design; conducting semi-structured interviews/discussions with experts and key informants; participating in the design and conduct of surveys; analyzing data; summarizing findings and their significance; and writing sections of reports. Other tasks that an Analyst should be able to perform include: reviewing and abstracting published literature and other written materials; reviewing and abstracting relevant data from case files and databases; cleaning and troubleshooting resulting data; coding data elements; analyzing data; and creating summary charts and tables for inclusion in reports.

In addition to project-specific work, an Analyst will contribute to proposals for potential new work, writing sections and coordinating the production process. Analysts are encouraged to develop expertise in policy areas of interest to them, and to pursue new work in those areas. Analysts are also expected to participate actively in and contribute to BPA on the corporate as well as the project level.

Analysts work on several projects simultaneously, and are responsible for managing their time in such a way as to accomplish the work on each project within the time allotted. Analysts are expected to work constructively with other staff on a project team, contribute ideas, use time effectively, work productively and at a high level of quality, and represent the company in a professional manner in dealings with outside individuals and organizations.

Primary Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent in public policy, social welfare, planning, economics, or related research/analysis-oriented disciplines. Evidence of excellent writing and oral communication skills, as well as demonstrated skills in qualitative analysis. Experience with SPSS, SAS, and/or STATA and quantitative research methods preferred. Must be able to travel on 2-5 day site visits.
